Monday, April 12, 2010 Quest for Immortality -Egypt - You dont have to go to Egypt to see e mummies & read the book of dead! =D All ty to national museum's exhibition - Quest for Immortality! As usual, the bunch of us went to view the exhibit. Again, ty to mom for providing the passes, all of us got in for FRREEEEEE!!!!! Had we queued up to buy passes, we would have to wait for some 30min. The booth was understaffed and unable to manage the snaking queue... That aside, we bumped into an old lady who offered to tour us round the museum. TBH, it was kinda dull. I did however like some of the ghost stories she shared and the whereabouts of raffles' biodiversity collections. We also got to see an interesting artwork consisting of lanterns swinging in fixed pattern at diff hours of the day. nice =) Moving on, we headed to the exhibition hall where we were freed from the guide's rambling. We decided not to take e guided tours and went round viewing the exhibits. At the entrance, there were some interactive hands on activities. We could make paper pyramids, play chess and write our names in Hieroglyphics!! =D At the exhibits, I took my time reading each description. However, I somehow ended up drifting quite far ahead of the group as I was lost in my thoughts. As I had viewed almost 90% of the exhibition, I quickly looked through the remaining 10% which included a clip from National Geographic's documentary on embalming. There, I bumped into shu hua who I thought was with chibi and gang. I wonder how she trans-located there so quickly! After meeting up with shroom, we decided to trace our steps and look for the others and quickly found em. Chibi griped, saying that she didnt see any mummies nor the book of death when in truth, she & gang had not reached em. I decided to "spoiler" her. Muahahahaha! Upon delivery, her eyes lit up and the gang increased the pace, moving towards the mummies and their respective coffins w canopic jars. These 4 jars contain specific organs - eg: heart, brain, stomach, intestines, etc. Differentiated by their lids - Jackal/Human/Harpy/Baboon Headed. Go google/wiki if u wanna know their names =X Naturally, this process makes it easier to preserve the body which is dehydrated with salt to keep it dry. The body is then bandaged with specific ornaments on the chest, neck and forehead. Finally, it is put in the coffin and transported to the tomb. Having seen the mummies and the book of death, we took some candid shots with horus. I decided to mimic the priests in the book of death and posed as though I was worshiping him XD Btw, I am atheist! I have no god! Labels: Outing Sunday, April 11, 2010 Sentosa - Lights of Spring (20 Feb 10) Another photoless for now post D: No, its nothing to do with Deepavali nor Cell Cycle & Oncology. Its the various chinese zodiacs as sculptures/lanterns! Here, everyone gets to see their zodiac and horoscope with well wishes for 2010! We headed down early and went to e diff beaches of Sentosa! We also kept bumping into the ImSocial promoters promoting motorola's latest smart phone There, we began building "mountains" to commemorate our arrival. I was in charge of building trenches to prevent the waves from hitting it. Pretty effective but of little use... Chibi & Epsilon have destructive natures in common =X Before leaving, they made sure to destroy any trace of it. After a while, we decided to take a break, wait for aud and play some games. Moo brought a beach ball and later bought a frisbee. lol officers get paid too much =X However, it soon began to rain and we made ammends to our plans and headed to beach station to meet up with shroom who was as usual, mugging away D: Moving on, we waited for the rain to stop before heading to the beach again! Haha, we bumped into the ImSocial promoters again. This time, we forced the Anti-Social peeps to have their photos taken. It soon fell dark and we proceeded to the Lights of Spring Festival! Upon arrival we saw the rat, monkey, chicken and tiger. Couldnt find the Dragon till much later... they packed it quite some distance away in a lil corner =( But I digress! Nette, Xue Ni & Moo bought papers to hang on the wishing trees. There, nette also made some funny remarks abt some of the wishes hung on e tree =p She also took picts of e yipyips there. Next, we continued our quest to enter the dragon!! We searched high and low, passing through a sea of blinding blue LED lights and saw a clown on stilts. Took picts w him and moved on to the dragon, horse, snake & rabbit. After taking picts w our beloved dragon, we loitered around, taking random pix and before long, it was time to go =/ Before we left, I spotted orion, gemini and canis major. All 3 were high in the sky and quite prominent. Day after day of overtime has taught me alittle abt the night sky... Labels: Outing Star Gazing @ Ubin (5-6 Feb 10)
BICYCLE! BICYCLE! BICYCLE! I WANT TO RIDE MY BICYCLE!! I WANT TO RIDE IT WHERE I LIKE!!~~ *sings* Ahem... Back on topic... Saw: Orion (hunter), Germini (twins), Lynx, Tarus (bull), 7 Sisters, Aguria (chariot rider), Canis Major (big dog), Canis Minor (small dog), Lepus (hare), Draco (Dragon) 1 meteorite (flying out of libra) Spotted Parts of: Eridanus, Pegasus, Draco With Moo's Help: Perseus, Big Dipper, Bootes, Virgo, Scorpio, Libra, Southern Cross, Cancer, Hydra & a few star clusters. Met up w Chibi & Edmund @ Tampinese for lunch and bought a couple of snacks. Though I bought just 1 packet of potato chips, I couldnt finish it =/ I ended up feeding an army D: A BIIIIIIGGGGGGG apology to chibi, moo & edmund! Anyway, upon arrival, we set up camp near a group of ITE students on some leadership camp. It would have been a pain to lug all our stuff around. We also trust that they wont do anything funny w our stuff. Regardless, I put a lock to be sure. JOSH-SURE Moving on, we went to visit a couple of quarries in ubin while waiting for moo to join us, only to learn that the actual star gazing was to be held on 6th Feb. Miscommunication =/ No matter to us since we were already there and definitely not gonna spend another night. After visiting the quarries, we headed back to camp for some stuff and off for dinner. However, we were too late! The stalls were all closed! Fortunately, a provisions shop sold instant noodles and added hot water for us too. While eating, moo arrived and joined us, pointing out the constellations. Again, no picts of e stars. Go Google em urself =X The Next Day: Had a light breakfast and rented a bike, riding out to Chek Jawa. Good to know that my bike riding skills arent too rusty. My ability to gauge my Centre of Gravity works fine =) Poor chibi on the other hand had to push her bike for the most part and took a fall while going down slope. I guess i ought to teach her how to ride on rough terrain... Upon reaching chek jawa, we parked our bikes and walked on the broadwalk, taking a few picts. We also got to see frog island which appears only at low tide. legend has it that a frog, elephant & pig tried to swim across e river but epic phailed, turning to stone. the pig n elephant formed pulau ubin. the frog formed a separate entity. After visiting chek jawa, we proceeded to the english cottage. So nice and cozy... If only I were born british. I could be living a simpler life in a cottage in e country side listening to beatles, No NS, etc... Troubles aside, we began cycling back to the jetty. another rough and bumpy ride for us, a long walk for chibi D: When we finally reached e jetty, we returned our bikes, took a group shot and headed back to e mainland before rushing back home to sleeeeeeeppppp!!! Also, a thousand apologies to chibi for: 1) forgetting to pass her e 7 sisters keychain 2) oversleeping till 5am the next day. Was supposed to RO w her after e ubin trip. 3) overdue blog posts... 4) Getting frog island & sister island mixed up! Pls spare me, Chibi Mei Mei! >.< Labels: Outing Wednesday, April 15, 2009 Soul Eater (14th April) YOUR SOUL IS MINE! OM NOM NOM NOM! =X lol jk... Earlier today, we headed down to Ngee Ann City to have a loooooonnnnngggg dinner @ Seoul Garden. The food wasnt really too great but we had quite alot of fun AND FOOD! IMHO, the food would have tasted better if it were better seasoned... But then again, it was quite fun to be a carnivore =p Labels: Outing Saturday, March 28, 2009 Aikido Shinjukai Demo @ Cathay Cineplex!! Today is the second time Aikido Shinjukai is having a demo @ cathay! I was supposed to liling's uke (or rather, pervert as she refers me to) However, there was a sudden change of plans. My nage ended up being someone from bukit batok cdans who is very much shorter. lol, she had stage fright n froze up repeatedly during the demo XD On the other hand, I took alot of slams from her as she performed tons of kote gaishi... She could decide what technique to use and spammed kote gaishi on impulse x.X Labels: Outing Thursday, February 26, 2009 Botanic Gardens Part II Chibi is nagging at me again! T_T So I'm forced to blog... (She's such a nazi! >.<) So without further ado... here are the rest of the picts! First up... the $5 tree! This tree is featured on Singaporean $5 notes! ![]() And a close up of it... Yet another heritage tree! Dont touch it though! It has thorns!! ![]() We also went round the park having alittle fun... ![]() ![]() lol... I tried to chop her on the head b4 the pict was taken... @ Sundial garden... Going there at 2pm is a bad idea!! ![]() And of course... Since chibi will bug me for this one... She's obsessed with the happy-faced-fishes x.X We also got to see some squirrels on the way =) We also visited the Ginger Garden & took a couple of shots. We also pretended to be lost =p ![]() And last but not least... the final stop for the day... ![]() The botanic gardens children's park =p Chibi, being a little girl dragged us all in... We got chased out some 20-30min later though lol... ![]() Don't ask me why but... the 3 of them probably wanted to pose like charlie's angels? I dunno... more like devils to me =X Especially the tiny soul in the centre... Labels: Outing |
