ZoomBeast & Genetics 1on1...
If you're lazy to read through, conclusion is to see a genetic councellor before having kids!
If the genetic councellor advices against having kids, ask about purchasing egg/sperm from elsewhere!
Before I begin my rant, here's a brief introduction of Mendel's Law...
1) There are 22 pairs of chomosomes (autosomes) & 2 sex chomosomes (Girls = XX, Guys = XY)
2) Autosomal genes determine your physical traits such as eye colour.
3) Each autosomal gene has its pair (One from your Dad, the other from your Mom)
4) There is dominance & recessiveness between genes
5) The more dominant of the two genes is expressed to produce your physical traits
6) The recessive gene shuts up and hides in a hole...
With that said, there are 3 different possible combinations between dominant & recessive genes.
Lets assume:
"A" = dominant.
"a" = recessive
Homozygous Dominant = AA
Heterozygous = Aa
Homozygous Recessive = aa
Of the three, genetic defects are commonly the result of "aa" as its a combination of two recessive genes which do not function well. With that said, parents who are Aa, have a 25% chance of obtaining a child with aa.
However, if one of the parents is Aa and the other, aa, there is a 50% chance of having a child with aa.
Therefore with this knowledge, I would like to suggest to ALL to check with a genetic counceller before having children. Do this for the sake preventing reducing suffering for the next generation! If you DO have a child with a genetic disorder, go check with your genetic councellor before you have your next!
